The
climate in Ireland does not get either too
hot or too cold but it is very wet and you
should plan and pack accordingly. The Irish
measure temperature in Celsius, not Fahrenheit.
The temperature only drops below freezing
intermittently and snow is scarce. the coldest
months are January and February with daily
temperatures from 4 degrees to 7 degrees.
In the summer temperatures range from 15
degrees to 20 degrees. In August and July
the average is 16 degrees so a hot day would
be 22 to 24 degrees! But the great thing
about the summer months are there are 18
hours of daylight so it will not get truly
dark until after 11pm.
Always be prepared for rain, some parts
of the country get as many as 270 days of
rain per year. The mountains of south/west
|Kerry are amongst the wettest in the country.
It means the scenery is also ever green.
In the south-east it is the driest (places
like County Wexford and County Watford).
The best weather in Ireland
is July and August when it is warmer and
the daylight hours are longer. However crowds
are also greater and costs higher and accommodation
more difficult to find. Winter months are
quieter but the weather can be miserably
wet and cold with little daylight and fewer
tourist facilities. If you visit in June
or September you may avoid the worst of
the crowds from the summer and still get
good weather.
Lightweight cottons and linens are
worn during the summer, except in
the mountains. Lightweight to medium-weights
are worn in the south during winter,
while warmer clothes are worn elsewhere.
Alpine wear is advised for hilly areas.
