Bathrooms and hygiene standards vary from
country to country. In some places you may
only have a hole in the floor and a cup of
water, other places dogs are allowed into
the restrooms and sometimes you have to pay
and queue to use the facilities. Sometimes
it may be cleaner to make your own outdoor
version!
In Asia and Africa it is always best to
carry your own supply of toilet paper as
this is usually not provided. Soap (and
water) or some hand wipes are also advised.
Sometimes you may be asked to pay for the
services of someone who cleans the bathrooms.
Generally if you are not happy with the
service don’t pay.
Paid toilets are becoming increasingly
more common in all parts of the world so
be prepared. In European summers expect
long queues so don’t be in a hurry!
Generally restaurants and fast food outlets
provide free services.
