Summer
is the busiest season with holidaying Europeans
so it may not be the best time to visit
if you want a quiet holiday. However during
off-season periods many hotels and restaurants
and other services can close down, although
prices are generally lower for what is open.
Generally the best time to visit is from
April to June and September to October when
weather is good, prices are lower and there
are less tourists. Spring is ideal although
relapses from the winter are not unknown,
Autumn is pleasant and if snow sports are
your thing then the winter ski season is
fantastic. Christmas, New Year and February/March
school holidays are expensive times. In
the cities winters can be wet but often
there are all sorts of cultural shows.
Lightweight cottons and linens are worn
during the summer, except in the mountains.
Lightweight to medium weights are worn in
the south during winter, while warmer clothes
are worn elsewhere. Alpine wear is advised
for winter mountain resorts.
This region has such
a wide range of climatic factors so
it is impossible to pin down the best
time to visit. Generally the wet season
is best avoided in most countries
as roads become impassable and conditions
unpleasant. It is also very hot and
humid. But please note that there
are regions unaffected by monsoon
rains like the mountainous regions
of India, Nepal, Tibet and Mongolia.
And in fact the monsoon rains make
places like the desert of Rajasthan
(India) better. Winters can be surprisingly
cold (eg. India) in some regions,
extraordinarily harsh in others (eg.
Kazaksthan) and very temperate in
others (eg. Thailand). Please check
the conditions thoroughly.
The Christmas holiday period beings
a wave of migratory Australians and
there's an even bigger tourist wave
during the European summer holidays.
Although these crowds tend to go to
centres like Phuket (Thailand) and
Bali (Indonesia).
Due to cultural restrictions baggy
loose fitting clothing is advised
at all times. In summer cottons and
linens are advisable for the heat.
Deciding when to come
to Africa depends a lot on where you
plan to go and what you plan to do.
Summers are generally uncomfortably
hot. But the higher elevated areas
can be cooler and even rain and mist
prone. In central and southern countries
the main tourist season is between
December and February in the hot summer
months. School holidays in April,
July and September can also be busy.
In the north June-August summer months
are hot and crowded. Generally March
to May is considered the best time
to enjoy warm days without crowds.
Rains in some parts of the continent
can affect travellers’ ability
to get around.
Due to cultural restrictions in some
places baggy loose fitting clothing
is advisable. In summer cottons and
linens are best for the heat.
Generally you can’t go wrong visiting
the South Pacific at any time of year.
The climate is temperate although summers
are excessively hot in some parts (eg.
Central Australia) and very cool in
winters (eg. New Zealand). Summer (December
to February) and Easter are holiday
times here and roads are packed with
holidaying locals. The wet season is
summer which can be monsoonal in some
areas.
Visitors are advised to ensure adequate
sun protection in this region. Australia
has amongst the highest incidence of
sun cancer in the world and burning
can occur within 20 minutes. Avoid the
sun between 10-2pm or wear long sleeved
shirts and hats. Also beware that summers
are also box jellyfish season in some
areas and a sting can be potentially
fatal.
Most travellers head
to the USA and Canada during summer.
However this is when most local families
are also out holidaying. To avoid
crowds go in autumn or early spring.
Fall colours in Autumn are especially
beautiful particularly in New England
and the upper Great Lakes. In the
north winters are sub zero but fantastic
for winter sports. In the south it
is still mild and temperate during
this time.
This
is a year-round destination as sea
breezes insure pleasant temperatures
even in the heat of summer. The peak
season is from mid December to mid
April when hotel prices are highest
and hotels fill up. Summer (July to
November) is the best season to travel
in but it is hurricane season. The
best conditions for windsurfing are
in winter.
Climatic factors vary
all over South America. So choosing
when to visit depends on what you
want to do and where you intend to
go. For example in the north in Colombia
the best time to visit is during the
dry season. Colombians take their
holidays from December-January. In
Brazil the summer (December-February)
is vacation time with high prices
for the festival season. Much of the
year in Brazil is good for visiting
unless you dislike muggy summer conditions
and rainy winters.
In Bolivia winters are cold and summers
are wet in the highlands. In the lowlands
it is hot and muggy. Travel can be
affected in summer due to road washouts
and flooding. The high tourist season
falls in winter (June to September)
due to climatic factors, timing to
fit the European and North American
summer holidays and for the major
fiesta season. Overseas visitors and
South Americans are both travelling
during this period. Moving futher
south to Chile, the climate is good
all year with lakes in summer, ski
resorts for winter or alpine summers,
or spring and harvest times. TOP
