To save on accommodation costs consider camping,
or staying in convents, monasteries, social
welfare hostels and backpacker hostels.
However in some countries hotel rooms for
two or pension type establishments can work
out cheaper.
If you are aiming to stay anywhere for
more than a few days ask for a discount
or offer to work in lieu of your accommodation
Your Lonely Planet or guidebook is not
the only option for accommodation. Hostels
open and close regularly so ask around when
you get there. A Travel Information Centre
is always a good first option.
However saving a few euro, dollars or rupees
on accommodation is not worth it if it is
out of town, unhygienic, cold, uncomfortable
or even dangerous.
