The Generator
London
If you've just come from small towns in England or mainland Europe The Generator is a bit of a shock. It's huge. I don't know how many floors but there were people everywhere. They have this crazy cleaning system going on all day - something like everything cleaned twice because so many people use it. I know because I got talking to one of the girls. She was cleaning in exchange for board and working somewhere else too part time. Everything at The Generator is this kind of space age silver and blue. It makes it feel futuristic. They provide breakfast in the morning in rooms with television screens and there is also a travel agent to help you do just about anything you want anywhere in the UK or outside. It was pretty handy for our plans. Overall I thought it was a good place to stay to see London and meet other traveller's but probably just not as personal as other places.

Millenium Lodge
London
I stayed in Millenium Lodge over the winter. The rooms were okay and I liked that the dorms had a sink in the room so you could at least clean your teeth and wash your face in your room. But the communal areas were really great. The main area is huge and had pinball machines, and the little cafe/bar had really comfy chairs where you could sit and watch movies and they served good coffee too - probably because one of the owner's is French! Most of the staff were pretty friendly and I felt happy spending a few days here to see London.

st. christopher's inn, shepherd's bush
London, England
at anywhere else, our double room (priced at about $80 USD after taxes and such) would be outrageously expensive, but for london, not bad at all. pretty spartan but very clean... we had two bunk beds, a chair, a sink, and a minifridge (a pleasant surprise!) our bathroom was alright, but it had a push button shower and tended to sort of flood the floor (which was concrete with a drain, so who cared). the staff was very nice, and the hostel has keycard locks so i felt very secure. overall nice location (right across the street from the tube station), but staying in zone 1 would have been nice. breakfast was toast with jam and tea or coffee... definitely not posh, but what can you expect? if you can get a deal someplace else, go for it, but we were very pleased with st. christopher's.

Easton Hotel and Hotel Boulevard
London, England
We stayed in Easton Hotel. I did not quite like the place. We were in 1 of the basement rooms. In fairness, the place was quite big and have the basic problem-free amenities. However, the overall atmosphere is like we're living in a storage room which made us uncomfortable. The location however, is good because it is near the main train station. The second one is called the Boulevard Hotel which is also near the main train station. The room is really, really cramped. Our luggage hardly fit the room so we have to have our luggage stand everytime we wanted to move inside the room. It was supposed to have airconditioning. But when we were there, it was broken. Anyway, it was portable airconditioning and I doubt it will get cold anyway. I liked this better than the first one as it is cheery, bright and furniture is pretty new. Both places don't have elevators too. However, in the Boulevard Hotel, walls and floors are thin. In our case, it was just ok as the noise were at decent waking hours. By the way, both of us are heavy sleepers so I'm not sure if light sleepers will be comfortable.
