St Patrick's Cathedral
The oldest Christian site in Dublin is built near where
St Patrick used to hang out. The building dates from
1191 but underwent renovations in the 19th century.

MUSEUMS
Dublin Writers Museum
This Georgian mansion houses a collection of artefacts
documenting Irish literature. Displays include a 1645
Old Testament, first editions and correspondance of
Irish writers Beckett, Joyce and Shaw and Brendan Behan's
typewriter. Admission: €5. Open Mon-Sat 10am-5pm,

National Museum of Ireland
This museum features prehistoric gold and other early
artefacts from the Viking era to more modern times.

Old Jameson Distillery
This distillery has been converted into a museum detailing
the history, culture and science behind Irish Whiskey.
The tour of the museum concludes with a tasting of five

CULTURAL CENTRES

This is one of the many monuments dedicated to James
Joyce and the Centre is a good place to get an insight
into the author and Dublin. Read Ulysees before you
come to Dublin as you will find many other sites throughout
the city have some relation to Joyce. Admission: €3.80,

Joyce Tower
Jame's Joyce spent a week at the Martello Tower in 1904
and this tower in suburban Sandycove has since been
associated with this great author. The tower is the
setting for the opening chapter in Ulysees and now houses
a collection of memoribilia. Admission: €2.50.

Dublinia
This is a multi-media depiction of Dublin history with
an insight into Viking heritage and life in Dublin during
the 16th century. A bit touristy. Admission: €5.

GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS
Leinster House
This house was built by James Fitzgerald, Earl of Kildare
in 1745. It was at the forefront of the development
of the southside of the River Liffey. In 1922 it became
home to the Irish Parliament. Parliament sits 90 days
each year and you can get tickets to parliamentary debates.
Admission: free. Parliament sits on Tues 2.30-8.30pm,
Wed 10.30am-8.30pm, Thur 10.30am-5.30pm between mid-Jan-Easter,

COLLEGES
Trinity College
Not just a prestigious seat of learning but also an
important historical site. The building is also very
fine and you can wander the grounds for free. To visit
the library there is a fee. Admission€5.70, students
€5.10 for the Old Library. Old Library open Oct-May
Mon-Sat 9.30am-5pm, Sun 12noon-4.30pm; Jun-Sep Mon-Sat
9.30am-5pm, Sun 9.30am-4.30pm; closed between Christmas

St Stephen's Green
Originally this space was used by public hangings and
burnings but now the ponds, gardens and bandstand are
a pleasant setting surrounded by Georgian buildings.
