DUBLIN: WHERE TO SLEEP

Go back to Dublin Summary

Dublin has numerous options for travellers of all ages and budgets. We have specified these below. Feel free to contact us for additional or more specific advice - ireland@backpackglobe.com

HOSTELS
As camping is not really an option in Dublin this is the best choice for the budget traveller and the majority of hostels are independently owned. There is also fierce competition amongst the operators which means that standards are pretty high. However as this is a capital city, and popular, most dorm beds range at about 15 Euro. But you should also get breakfast. For a bit more you can get a private room. Most of the hostels are clumped around North of the Liffey.

Please consult our booking engine on the left hand side of every page to search for reviews and specific options or email us for advice.

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

Between June and September you can stay in accommodation provided by the city's universities. Try Trinity College, Dublin City University and Mercer Court for options.

HOTELS

Mid range hostels cost about 57 Euro to 83 Euro per night and often still provide breakfast. Prices are cheaper north of the Liffey. Again please consult our booking engine or email us for advice.

BED AND BREAKFASTS

B&Bs offer a bit more privacy but can still be affordable for budget travellers. Again with increased competition amongst Dublin owners the standard of these has also increased. You won't get much less than 25 Euro or 40 Euro per person in a townhouse or guesthouse respectively. One of the benefits of B&Bs also is that you will get the chance to meet Irish people, usually the owners, and a decent breakfast. Most B&Bs in Dublin are in Gardiner Street. Options further out of the city (and slightly cheaper) are Contarf, Dun Laoghaire or Howth. Ballsbridge is a little more expensive but it's convenient and offers quality accommodations. Other suburbs to try include Sandymount, Drumcondra.

CAMPING GROUNDS

Options for camping are usually a little out of the city centre. We do list some of these on our booking engine which you can check for reviews. However you may also find the following sites useful in your plans for camping in Dublin:

APARTMENTS

You do not need to be staying a long time to find these affordable. A lot of agents and individual operators will rent these
out for short term periods, per week or even per night. If you have a group of people, or are a family or a couple wanting extreme privacy and the facilities to cook your own food; this will suit you best. For groups or families it may also work out cheaper than staying in a hotel or hostel (particularly if you cook your own food).

Travel Now is our partner and offers apartments such as this. Other agenices in Dublin also run a service finding apartments. The Daily Telegraph newspaper also lists rental options.
