Oxleys on the River
For seafood at a price but a superb view of the river and it's activites Oxley can't be beaten. Book ahead on weekends.

The Sultan's Kitchen
163 Given Terrace, Paddington
This is an Indian restaurant open for lunch and dinner with an all you can eat smorgasboard.

Paddo Tavern, Given Terrace, Paddington
For excellent value lunches try the $4.95 deals at this modern decor pub. At nights on weekends it can really hop.

Park Road
This road running from the river towards the Milton train station features a number of very stylish cafes and eateries. La Dolce Vita
and Rue du Paris are probably the most popular under the mini Eiffel Tower replica. A large crowd of runners and cyclists congregates here on weekends. Mary Ryan's Book Shop further up the street offers coffee in a booky atmosphere.

Freestyle
This is primarily a desert cafe but you can get meals at lunch time and dinner. But most people come for the fine coffee, cakes and icecream options.

FORTITUDE VALLEY
Fat Boy's, Fortitude Valley, Brunswick Street Mall
With big screen TVs for major sports events and great breakfast, lunch and dinner menus with seating that spills into the Brunswick Street Mall. Try the raison toast in the morning, it's a least several inches thick. On weekends there is live music and morning markets nearby.

There are numerous Chinese eateries on Wickham Street near Brisbane's Chinatown that have similar menu's, prices, and gustation.

WEST END
Mollison and Boundary Streets and Hardgrave Road are dotted with ethnic eateries and you could probably take your pick amongst any of the choices.

This comes particularly recommended with asian and mediterranean food.

Khan's Kitchen
In Hardgrave Road the small Khan's Kitchen with traditional Pakistani dishes is very good value.

Ship Inn
Bistro meals with pasta, steak, and other food. Mediterranean style decor.

There are numerous outdoor eateries to pick from with views over the river or of the parks. Alternatively bring your own picnic and make use of the free barbecues and lawns.

A-Z of pizza dishes available and deserts and coffee before or after the movie in the adjoining building. Discounts for university students and film club members.

Mt Coot-tha
This restaurant is perched right on the top of the mountain with fantastic views of the city below. The food is mid ranged price.

Valley Markets
The Brunswick Street mall markets are held Saturday mornings with a variety of jewellery, alternative style clothes, fresh produce and more.

Bi weekly Farmers markets
A farmers market is held every weekend in Brisbane but alternates locations between the University of Queensland, New Farm and ... Gourmet food at a price including pesto's, spreads, fish, bread and more.

Riverside Markets
A Sunday market along the river by Eagle Street Pier with mostly handicrafts.

Southbank Markets
Art and crafts market Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday until 5pm.

Rocklea food markets

There are numerous shopping centres all around Brisbane to cater for the de-centralised population. Most can be reached easily by public transport, usually train. In the city try the Myer Centre off the Queen Street Mall (Roma Street station is the closest 5 mins away). Other options include Toowong Village (Toowong train station, Ipswich line), Indooroopilly Shopping Town (5 mins from Indooroopilly train station, Ipswich Line), Toombul (Toombul train station, Caboolture line)
, Westfield Carindale, Logan City (Mt Gravatt)

Check Time Off listings and other free street magazines for a full list of gigs and events in Brisbane. The street magazines are distributed bi-weekly mostly in the city centre and Fortitude Valley.
