and shops at all hours of the day. For top end dining,

Phone: 03-96633199). For sublime food at a reasonable
price look in at the Supper Inn (Level 1, 15-17 Celestial
Ave, Phone: 03-9663 4759). A favourite of the restaurant
community. Open late. Booking is recommended.
Southbank and the Casino offer a wide variety of fare
and bars.

France Soir
Parisien bistro with plenty of ambience. Excellent wine
list and daily specials. A favourite for many high profile
visitors to Melbourne. Sportspeople, musicians, politicians
and actors alike.

Built into the old tram terminus, the kitchen of this
restaurant continually produces food of an exceptional
standard. After a fine dinner and wine in warm surroundings
step out into the sea scented air of St. Kilda and take
a nightcap at one of the many bars on Fitzroy Street.
Esplanade Hotel
At the time of writing this, the future of this beautiful
old hotel on the St. Kilda Esplanade was uncertain.
Bathers from the beach would take the time for a few
cool drinks after a day on the beach. The hotel is also
one of the best places in Melbourne to see live acts
on any night of the week.

For Jazz music go to Manchester Lane on Flinders Lane
or Dizzies in the city. For some good live music try
the Prince of Whales (St Kilda, see above), The Esplanade
(St Kilda, see above). In Fitzroy try The Nightcap.
Brunswick Street also has plenty of live music.
Nightclubs include Honkytonks (in the city off Flinders
Lane), Misty Bar (Hosier Lane, off Flinders Lane). In
Toorak try 161 on 161 High Street, Toorak. Unusual clientele.
Revolver is on Chapel St, Toorak.
