EDINBURGH: WHERE TO SLEEP

Go Back to Edinburgh Summary

Edinburgh has numerous options for travellers of all ages and budgets. We have specified these below. Make sure you book well ahead during Edinburgh's festivals particularly the Edinburgh Festival, Fringe Festival and New Year. Feel free to contact us for additional or more specific advice - scotland@backpackglobe.com

HOSTELS
The Scottish Youth Hostels Association, www.syha.org.uk runs around 80 hostels in Scotland including a handful in Edinburgh. You do however need to be a member to stay there. There are numerous independent hostels and many are very conveniently located in central Edinburgh. Check out the areas around Waverley Station, the Old town and West End. Please consult our booking engine on the left hand side of every page to search for reviews and specific options or email us for advice. Most cost £10-15 and have private rooms available also.

UNIVERSITY ACCOMMODATION
During vacations universities and colleges offer accommodation in student halls of residence. However many are a long way from the city centre and probably not quite so budget as the hostels. Try Napier University www.napier.ac.uk and Pollock Halls of Residence www.edinburghfirst.com

HOTELS
There is quite a large jump in price to hotels in Edinburgh. Most are about 155 in the top end but you can find some for around £ 50-60. Again please consult our booking engine or email us for advice.

BED AND BREAKFASTS

Most B&bs and guesthouses are in Tollcross, Bruntsfield, Newington and Pilrig. Most cost between £ 25-50. Again we hope you will first consult our booking engine for options. Other useful links include:

CAMPING GROUNDS

Unlike most big cities there are actually some camp grounds quite close to the city centre. We do list some of these on our booking engine which you can check for reviews. However you may also find the following sites useful in your plans for camping:

APARTMENTS
You do not need to be staying a long time to find these affordable. A lot of agents and individual operators will rent these out for short term periods, per week or even per night. If you have a group of people, or are a family or a couple wanting privacy and the facilities to cook your own food; this will suit you best. For groups or families it may also work out cheaper than staying in a hotel or hostel (particularly if you cook your own food).

Travel Now is our partner and offers apartments such as this.
