Whatever
the season, the weather is liable to change
in Scotland from day to day, so always bring
layers, a waterproof coat or jacket and
an umbrella. The Scottish measure temperature
in Celsius, not Fahrenheit.
Autumn (September -
November)
In Autumn the temperatures can fluctuate
from 7 to 14 degrees Centigrade. It can
be both very warm and very cold! But September
is likely to be warmer than November.
Winter (December - early March)
These are the shortest and coldest days
in Scotland (about 7-8 hours of daylight).
However they tend to be crisp and bright.
Temperatures fluctuate from 1 to 5 degrees
Centigrade.
Spring (March - May)
Again nothing is guaranteed in Spring, it
can be sunny but also cold and wet. Expect
temperatures between 60 to 11 degrees Centigrade.
By May it can get up to 18 degrees.
Summer (June - August)
Summer days are mostly warm but the evenings
can cool down. Temperatures range from 14
- 20 degrees Centigrade, although it can
get to 28 degrees Centigrade sometimes.
There is quite a difference in temperature
between Scotland and Southern England. Generally,
the further north, the colder it is. TOP
CLOTHING
Lightweight cottons and linens are
worn during the summer, except in
the higher reaches. Lightweight to
medium-weights are worn in the winter,
while warmer clothes are worn elsewhere.
Alpine wear is advised for winter
mountain and wilderness areas.
